LOVE THIS CD - I ve liked Johnny Guitar Watson ever since Real Mother For Ya. I love his play on words, and funny sayings and his voice is very unique. He can really play the blues. Superman Lover is such a good song, it s featured as a character s theme song in the movie Roll Bounce. I wish a few other songs were included, but as far as an introduction to JGW, this is the CD to get.
Grand Master of Funk - The only man to really hit Funk right on the head, he owned it! Whenever I put him on in my car people who have never listened to him before enjoy him right away, his music was always pure enjoyment, the lyrics just made you smile so much.First listened to him in 1979 in Berlin, and if I feel a bit low then he lifts me all the way up to the top, there was or is no one cooler than the great guitar man.Regret never seeing him live on stage, he never seemed to get the recognition he deserved, is there anyone out there that is close to this man, I think not?
Johnny s the Man! - This is a good starting anthology of JGW. My only regret is that The Real Deal is inexplicably missing from it. That is a scat MASTERPIECE. Another thing the above viewer pointed out, is JGW s use of humor in his compositions. I mean, I just CRY when I hear Johnny vamp at the end of Real Mother For Ya: Gimme some of that low lead, I ain t gonna fool with nuthin else! I gotta STOP buying TWO hot dogs and a strawberry soda! I ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL! Every time. I LOVE this man, miss him. I discovered him too late to see him in concert, and that is my greatest regret of all. I play him almost every day. I smile when I hear his voice, his licks, his Listen s between verses. This man IS a giant...right up there...with ANYONE you d care to name. Johnny Guitar? YOU ARE THE FREAKIN MAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everlasting - In need of uplifting vibes? Watson is like a fine wine: it gets better as it gets older (George Clinton). Listen - and adjust.
excellent - In an interview during the eighties Eric Clapton was asked whether he could name his favourite guitar player. Johnny Guitar Watson was his answer. Nuff said...
